United carries all the top furnace manufacturers and our comfort specialists are pros at evaluating your home and your needs to recommend the right system. Not only can we install a system that is efficient, we make sure it matches the way you live and saves you more money on utilities with a programmable thermostat. United installs three grades of furnaces: premium, deluxe and standard.

Premium 98% Efficiency Furnaces

Two-Stage Heating Operation

Single-stage furnaces heat your home using a single temperature, giving you greater extremes of heat and cold. Two-stage furnaces provide even heating by operating at a lower temperature and increasing the temperature only as needed to heat your home. The benefits of a two-stage furnace are:

  • A more evenly and consistently heated home
  • Greater energy efficiency (lower heating bills)

98% Efficiency

98% is the highest efficiency available in a home furnace, which means significant savings on your heating bill, as well as providing you with the ultimate in home comfort during cold winter months.

Variable Speed Fan Motor

A variable speed fan motor operates at a slower, more efficient speed the majority of the time, increasing speed only when absolutely necessary to heat the home. The benefits of a variable speed fan motor are:

  • Consistent, even heating
  • Smooth, quiet operation
  • Lower electric bills
  • Better humidity conditions as the airflow through your home is more controlled

Insulated Blower Compartment

An insulated blower compartment provides ultra-quiet furnace operation.

Variable Speed Draft Inducer Motor (not available on all models)

The draft inducer motor pulls in the air that your furnace will be heating by ventilating air out of your system. A variable speed draft inducer controls the air circulation in your home and is much more efficient than a single-stage motor. The benefits of a variable speed draft inducer are:

  • Consistent, even heating
  • Smooth, quiet operation
  • Lower electric bills

Warranty

United offers premium efficiency furnaces with up to a lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger and a 10-year warranty on parts. Extended warranties are also available for greater peace of mind.

Deluxe 80% Efficiency Furnaces

Two-Stage Heating Operation

A standard single-stage furnace has one temperature level that it uses to heat your home. This creates a “jackrabbit” effect as your furnace stops and starts more often, resulting in greater extremes of hot and cold. Two-stage furnaces begin heating at a lower temperature, increasing the temperature only as needed to heat your home. The benefits of two-stage furnaces are:

  • A more evenly and consistently heated home
  • Greater energy efficiency (lower heating bills)

80% Efficiency

Though the 80% efficiency rating is the same as a standard grade furnace, the variable speed fan motors and two-stage heating operation distribute heat more evenly and more efficiently making you more comfortable and saving more money.

Variable Speed Fan Motor

This often works hand in hand with two-stage heating. A variable speed fan motor operates at a slower and more efficient speed most of the time, increasing speed only when absolutely necessary to heat the home. The benefits of a variable speed fan motor are:

  • A more evenly heated home
  • Smooth, quiet operation
  • Lower electric bills as the variable speed motor is more efficient than the single speed
  • Better humidity conditions as the single-stage fan typically results in dry air conditions

Insulated Blower Compartment

This is a great noise reduction feature that nearly eliminates the furnace’s normal fan noise.

Variable Speed Draft Inducer Motor

The draft inducer motor ventilates air out of your system and creates the needed draft coming into your system. A variable speed draft inducer motor works with the variable speed blower to better control circulation in your home. It is also much more efficient than a single-stage draft inducer motor. The benefits of a variable speed draft inducer motor are:

  • A more evenly heated home
  • Smooth, quiet operation
  • Lower electric bills (the variable speed fan consumes less power)

Warranty

United offers standard efficiency furnaces with up to a 25-year limited warranty on the heat exchanger and a 5-year warranty on parts. United also offers extended warranties that cover both parts and labor.

Standard 80% Efficiency Furnaces

Single-Stage Heating Operation

A new single-stage furnace operates at one temperature as it heats your home. While this is certainly adequate, it does result in greater extremes of heat and cold than a new furnace with two-stage heating operation. Is a standard efficiency furnace right for you? If you need the least expensive upfront cost and are satisfied with the basics, a standard efficiency new furnace fits the bill.

80% Efficiency

This means that for every unit of air taken into the furnace, 80% is returned into your home as heat. Is 80% acceptable in a new furnace? Certainly, especially when compared to older furnaces that operate at 60% or 70%. Keep in mind that premium furnaces operate at up to 98% efficiency, which can make a significant difference in your monthly bill. See the difference.

Warranty

United offers new standard efficiency furnaces with up to a 10-year limited warranty on the heat exchanger and a 5-year warranty on parts. United also offers extended warranties on your new furnace for greater peace of mind.

Is a standard furnace right for you?

Standard 80% efficient furnaces are sufficient for heating Kansas City homes and are the least expensive furnaces. While a standard furnace saves money up front, over time you may pay more on your heating bills than you saved buying a standard system. If utility savings is a motivator there are some great comfort options available in a deluxe or premium quality furnace.

United is happy to install a quality standard furnace in your home. However, we think the benefits of a deluxe or premium furnace are worth considering. Use our Heating Bill Calculator to calculate how different efficiencies could raise or lower your heating bill.

Gas Furnaces vs. Electric Furnaces

Statistics show that 95% of all Kansas City homes have natural gas furnaces. Natural gas is typically less expensive than electricity for heating your home. Electric heating makes sense in areas where natural gas is unavailable or you are considering a dual-fuel heat pump. In fact, most electric utilities charge reduced rates when you install a heat pump and some offer very attractive rebates (check with your local electric company).

Protect your new furnace with United’s maintenance program

Regular maintenance extends the life of your heating and cooling system. Consider United’s preventative maintenance program to keep your new furnace running at peak efficiency.
